Wildlife Campus

WildlifeCampus takes the positive from 2018 and carries it into 2019

Author: Eloise Acx — Chief Operating Officer, WildlifeCampus

As we bid farewell to 2018, we reflect on what an incredible year it has been! It has been a year of learning, experience, connection and most importantly, growth. As the festive season approaches, the air is filled with something special. Something magical. It’s a time for family, friends and festivities. And then, in the blink of an eye, it’s all over and seems like it’s time to “go back to reality”. The big question is, what is YOUR reality? What will you take from 2018 and make of it for 2019?

Love what you do

They say that if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. This statement certainly rings true for many of us working in the wildlife industry. It is an industry filled with passion, endless learning and most importantly, heart! This is something we are grateful to have learnt from our affiliates and students during this year.

We took many things away with us after our time spent at Hillcrest Game Estates. Not only did we learn everything it takes to set up and successfully run a game farm, but we experienced firsthand, the love for the land, its people and its wildlife. We saw true care for the land by utilizing only sustainable farming practices and support for the community surrounding the farm. A subject of importance that we often talk about is community participation in wildlife conservation. By involving and taking care of local communities, we ensure the future of our wildlife as well as that of our children. (Ed. Read the latest news about Diphetogo Creché’s visit to Hillcrest.)

Inspirational work and course updates

After meeting and working with such wonderful affiliates, partners and students, we could only be inspired! We are privileged to be able to bring conservation awareness through education. Through our travels and time in the field, we updated a vast amount of course content (including Wildlife Management in collaboration with Hillcrest Game Estates and KaiNav Conservation Foundation). As 2019 approaches, we will continue with course updates and look forward to welcoming more students from across the globe, to our Online Virtual Campus! Further, we welcome the development of practical experiences to be held at Hillcrest Game Estates. The perfect opportunity for students to get hands on, Wildlife Management experience in the field. Bringing everything learnt in theory, to real life.

Closing off the WildlifeCampus year with thank you’s

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank every person that has supported WildlifeCampus. Without you, our mission would be…well, impossible!

We extend our thanks to Adrian Baillie-Stewart and his highly professional team at Content Strategics for all your hard work in bringing all of us together.

We thank the Firth Family as well as Hillcrest Game Estates’ management and staff for always being so accommodating, kind and willing to share their passion and knowledge of wildlife and game farming with us.

We thank WildlifeCampus CEO Todd Kaplan for always supporting our causes and backing all our endeavours.

Looking towards 2019

As we go into the 2019 New Year, be sure to take a moment to create your reality. No matter what position you are in, be aware of your surroundings, keep the magic alive. Be grateful for the good people around you. Take time to appreciate every moment and opportunity you’re given. Most importantly, keep learning and keep growing!

Wherever you are in the world, enjoy this special season. Here’s to the blessing of another year and opportunity to turn your dreams into reality.

For the love of nature,

The WildlifeCampus Team
